abstract The invention relates to methods and apparatus for the treatment of carrier-fixed material, in particular biological material or material interacting with biological material. In one aspect, the invention provides a method of treating carrier-fixed material, particularly biological material or material interacting with biological material, using a plurality of slides arranged vertically above one another in a first carrier cassette, on each of which the material is disposed, and wherein a) in each case a slide is at least partially removed from the first carrier cassette, b) at least one treatment agent is applied to the material on the at least partially removed slide, c) the slide is placed in the first or a second carrier cassette after application of the treatment agent and d) the material on the slide in the first or the second carrier cassette is incubated with the treatment agent, and wherein at least one of the steps a) to c) is carried out automatically.
