titleOfInvention Flexible and infiltratable bundles of ceramic or metal fibers with a strongly coarsened structure and process for their production
abstract The present invention relates to a method for melt-free converting bundles of polycrystalline fibers into bundles of monocrystalline fibers or fibers with monocrystalline regions, comprising the steps: (1) providing one or more bundles of polycrystalline material fibers, (2) laterally fanning the fiber bundle or bundles such that the contacts of the fibers of the bundle are reduced among themselves, (3) recrystallizing the material contained in the fiber bundle (s) in a furnace zone at a temperature lower than the melting temperature of the fibrous material, and (4) cooling the fiber bundle or bundles, and fiber bundles, comprising at least 50 individual fibers, characterized in that each individual fiber consists of juxtaposed single crystals, occupying the full fiber cross-section over at least part of their length. The fiber bundles can be produced by means of the claimed method.
