abstract A needle assembly includes a needle having a piercing end and a socket projecting from a carrier such that an object receiving surface of the socket is spaced from the carrier by a distance greater than one-half the length of the needle. The needle projects from the object receiving surface such that the object receiving surface extends outwardly from a portion of the needle spaced from the piercing end such that upon piercing the needle into an object, a surface of the object rests on the object receiving surface.
