abstract A process for the separation of acrylic acid contained in a product gas mixture of a partial gas phase oxidation of a C 3 precursor compound of acrylic acid as the main product and by-produced glyoxal, which produces a liquid phase P, which consists of at least 70% of its weight of acrylic acid, and, based to the contained in it molar amount of acrylic acid, at least 200 mol.ppm glyoxal, in which the separation of the glyoxal of the acrylic acid from the liquid phase P out crystallizes out.
