abstract A method is disclosed for screening an antioxidant using bacterial mutants and chlorophyllide, as well as an antioxidant that is screened by this method. In particular, a method is provided for effortless screening of an antioxidant by observing growth profiles of specific bacterial mutants in filter discs or media blocks containing this added chlorophyllide and an antioxidant performing screening by this method. The invention enables an effortless screening of an antioxidant on an industrial scale by observing growth profiles of bacterial mutants using bacterial mutants and chlorophyllide. In particular, the antioxidant screening method of the invention is very useful for the selective screening of an amphiphilic antioxidant. Therefore, the invention is applicable to the screening of low-toxicity and effective antioxidants, as well as their commercialization, which are to be used in various food and cosmetic additives as well as therapeutic drugs.
