abstract The invention relates to a method for treating a skin material consisting of: - The treatment of the skin material with a phenol-containing tanning agent to allow a reaction between the hydroxyl groups (OH-) with the aluminum ions on the one hand for Alu-Ionen complex formation and hydrogen bonding (Nebenvalensig) to the various side chains of the polypeptide chains of the skin. The binding of aluminum ions to the carboxyl groups of the polypeptide chains of the skin with the result of an irreversible tanning, similar to chrome tanning, characterized, the aluminum treatment is carried out at least partly after the fat treatment.
