abstract Method for determining the sex of birds, characterized in that DNA-relevant cell material of the sexually determined bird is examined with light and the molecular vibrations are measured, that detects the spectrum of molecular vibrations resulting from the light and with predetermined and gender-specific DNA structures of comparing the reference spectra representing the species of interest and that based on the DNA content of the cell material based on the DNA content of the genetic material of the bird is taken from this spectral comparison.
