abstract The invention relates to hard-coated bodies with a multilayer coating system comprising at least one Ti 1-x Al x N hard material layer and a multi-stage CVD process for their production. The invention is based on the object to achieve a very good adhesion of the Ti 1-x Al x N hard material layer with high wear resistance in hard-coated bodies with a multilayer coating system containing at least one Ti 1-x Al x N hard material layer. The hard material-coated bodies according to the invention with a multilayer coating system which contains at least one Ti 1-x Al x N hard material layer are characterized in that the layer system consists of a) a TiN, Ti (C, N) or TiC bonding layer applied to the body, b) a phase gradient layer applied to the bonding layer and c) the single-phase or multi-phase Ti 1-x Al x N hard-material layer (s) applied thereon, wherein the phase gradient layer on its side facing the connection layer consists of a TiN / h-AlN phase mixture and towards the Ti 1-x Al x N hard material layer (s) with increasing layer thickness an increasing phase fraction of fcc-TiAlN with a Share of> 50% and associated simultaneous decrease in the phase proportions of TiN and h-AlN.
