A flow field plate (18) for a fuel cell (10) made from a plate material, the flow field plate (18) having a plurality of reactant gas flow channels (32, 38), the flow field plate (18) further comprising a carbide layer (50) making the flow field plate (18) conductive, hydrophilic and stable in a fuel cell environment, characterized in that the flow field plate (18) comprises two embossed panels (34, 36) defining cooling fluid flow channels (40) therebetween; and that the carbide layer (50) is deposited on both sides of the embossed panels (34, 36) so as to eliminate the need for joining the panels (34, 36) using known bonding techniques. |
