abstract A sensor is described which functions according to the following method for detecting soot by the following steps: Setting a first operating temperature on the sensor for a measurement phase, so that soot can deposit on the substrate surface, however, further soot disturbing deposits are prevented. - Recording the time from the beginning of the measurement to the occurrence of increased conductivity between the electrodes. - Setting a second operating temperature on the sensor for a regeneration phase, so that the deposited soot is burned with oxygen present in the sample gas. Product: soot sensor in the automotive sector.
