abstract A borehole physical measurement instrument has a probe for directionally selective detection of backscatter radiation in a borehole. The measuring probe is arranged so that it can rotate about a vertical axis of the borehole, that it has a distance from the axis of the borehole and that it can be moved in the vertical direction. A basic structure of the measuring device is provided, which is not rotatable about the axis of the borehole, but can be moved vertically and has centerings which ensure an axis-parallel vertical movability. A second structure rotatable relative to the base structure about the axis of the borehole is provided, which is moved vertically with the basic structure. The probe is attached to the second structure.
