This invention relates to high temperature resistant metal catalysts prepared by chemical-physical treatment and to high temperature resistant metal catalyst supports made from a shaped metallic material such as pins, wool, shavings, spirals or springs used in high temperature processes such as reforming. By specific reduction and oxidation cycles, in particular, nickel super alloys and nickel base alloys or intermetallic nickel compounds can be converted into high temperature resistant catalysts or carriers which can be used in reforming reactions, synthesis gas production, inert gas production or hydrogen production. The use of metallic bodies increases the heat transfer and thus leads to a significantly higher catalytic activity. With comparable activity between ceramic materials and metallic materials, such processes can be carried out at lower temperatures and more efficiently than heretofore. |
