abstract | The invention relates to a process for the preparation of arylpropanals by hydroformylation of vinylaromatics in the presence of a metal from Group VIII of the Periodic Table of the Elements, the hydroformylation being carried out in the presence of derivatized, essentially water-insoluble and complex-forming polyamines with an average molecular weight of more than 1000 Dalton and with at least 10 nitrogen atoms. Styrene can be hydroformylated to phenylpropanals, which can be hydrogenated to cyclohexylpropanols. To manufacture plasticizers, these are esterified with polybasic acids. |
