abstract | A method and system for intake air separation within an internal combustion engine is disclosed. The disclosed embodiments of the intake air separation system have an intake air intake adapted to receive substantially all of the intake air used in the combustion process for the engine, and an intake air separation device in flow communication with the intake air intake and capable of separating substantially all of the intake air into a flow of oxygen-enriched air and a flow of nitrogen-enriched air. The inlet air separation system further has a first outlet in fluid communication with the inlet air separation device, adapted to receive a flow of oxygen-enriched air, as well as a second outlet, also in fluid communication with the inlet air separation device, suitable for supplying the flow of nitrogen-enriched air to the inlet manifold Use in the combustion process. |
