abstract An energy management system for an implantable medical device comprising in combination: (1) an implantable energy source that supplies energy to at least two components within the implantable medical device; (2) a measuring device for measuring the energy of the power source; and (3) a computing unit that responds to the measuring device and, when the energy of the power source falls below a first predetermined level, is adapted to restrict power to a first component while allowing power to a device critical component, and if the energy the power source falls below a second predetermined level, is suitable for immobilizing the implantable medical device, wherein the device-critical component is a charging module.
