Use of an anti-Stokes phosphor in security documents |
abstract |
Use of an anti-Stokes phosphor in security documents, the anti-Stokes phosphor having absorber ions for absorbing electromagnetic radiation and emitter ions for emitting electromagnetic radiation, wherein the wavelength of the emitted electromagnetic radiation is less than the wavelength of the absorbed electromagnetic radiation the anti-Stokes phosphor is a gadolinium oxysulfide of composition (Gd) OS: YbTmist, and wherein ytterbium forms the absorber ions and thulium forms the emitter ions, characterized in that the ytterbium and thulium concentrations are within the limits 0.20 ≤ x ≤ 0.60 and 0.0001 ≦ y ≦ 0.05 are set such that the interactions between the absorber ions and the emitter ions result in a proportionate quenching of anti-stokes luminescence (concentration quenching) to provide high speed automatic detection at read rates between 3 m / s and 6 m / s ge to achieve low onset times and / or cooldowns of anti-Stokes luminescence. |
