Light metal materials or composite materials, which are in particular aluminum alloys, which consist of a soft matrix (8) with embedded hard materials (9), have become established in vehicle engine construction. A method for machining such alloys (12) is that mechanical finishing is carried out on at least one surface, and in a further step the softer light metal matrix (8) is reset, whereby the hard material crystals (9) are exposed. In order to achieve a uniform surface quality, the matrix (8) is reset by thermal action by means of rays (13). |
