Nickel-metal hydride cell with a paste-type nickel positive electrode containing nickel hydroxide and a cobalt conductivity aid selected from the group consisting of metallic cobalt and cobalt compounds, a negative electrode containing a hydrogen-absorbing alloy having a composition of the formula MmNi 5-x + y M x, where Mm is a rare earth element, M is a metallic element, 0 <x <2 and -0.2 <y <0.6, a separating membrane located between two electrodes, and an alkaline electrolytic solution, the ratio of CH to C-Co (II) being 1.3 or less, CH being the amount of electricity of the discharge reserve formed in the negative electrode and C-Co (II) being the amount of electricity necessary to reduce cobalt oxide in the positive electrode to cobalt (II) oxide. |
