abstract |
A bias circuit (30) for an ion current measurement system (10) draws energy from a primary side of the ignition coil (22) and applies a bias voltage (V¶VORSPANNUNG¶) with positive polarity to a low voltage side of a secondary winding (26) of the ignition coil (22). The bias circuit (30) includes a thyristor (SCR) (32) which has an ON state for transporting an ignition current (I¶SÜND¶) during an ignition interval of operation and also has an OFF state which prevents the stored Biasing on a capacitor (38) is bridged to ground, which enables ion current measurement through the low voltage side of the secondary winding (26). The low voltage drop in the ON state of the SCR (32) during conduction of the ignition current (I¶ZÜND¶) minimizes losses in ignition energy. |
