abstract |
This invention relates to a process for the preparation of a monoalkylglyceryl ether, comprising the reaction of a glycerol derivative having the general formula (1): DOLLAR F1 in which R 1 and R 2 are identical or different from one another and are individually a hydrogen atom or a hydrocarbon group having 1 to 10 carbon atoms, with the proviso that R 1 and R 2 are not hydrogen at the same time and which may be bonded to each other to form a ring together with the adjacent carbon atom, with a conjugated diene in the presence of a palladium compound and a tertiary phosphine or phosphite or in the Presence of a palladium-tertiary phosphine complex or a palladium-phosphite complex to obtain an etherified product having an alkadienyl group formed by dimerizing the conjugated diene; Hydrogenation of the alkadienyl group in the resulting etherified product in the presence of a catalyst comprising a Group VIII element (Groups 8 to 10) in a hydrogen atmosphere; and hydrolyzing an acetal or (ketal) portion in the etherified product in the presence of an acid catalyst. The monoalkyl glyceryl ether can be prepared more selectively in a simpler and less expensive manner without using a solvent. |
