titleOfInvention Process for the production of artificial oxygen carriers from covalently cross-linked hemoglobins with improved functional properties by cross-linking in the presence of chemically unreactive effectors of the oxygen affinity of the hemoglobins
abstract The invention relates to a method for producing artificial oxygen carriers from chemically crosslinked hemoglobins with improved functional properties, wherein chemically unreactive effectors of the oxygen affinity of the hemoglobins are added before the crosslinking of the hemoglobins and are present during the crosslinking. According to the invention, this leads to the reversible protection of those conformative regions of the hemoglobin molecules which control the interaction of the hemoglobins with oxygen. This non-chemical protection causes the oxygen binding properties (in particular affinity and cooperativity) to change in a modified manner during crosslinking of the hemoglobins.
