abstract The invention relates to novel 1H-imidazole-1-acetamides and to processes for their preparation. These are compounds of the formula (I) or a salt of acid addition or solvate thereof in which R 1 and R 2 independently of one another are hydrogen, hydroxyl, lower alkyl, lower alkoxy, nitro or halogen, R 3 and R 4 independently of one another are hydrogen, lower Or R3 and R4 together form a straight or branched alkylene chain of four to six carbon atoms and A is CH2CH (OH) CH2 or (CH2) n, where n is an integer from two to eight. The process for the preparation of a compound of formula I comprises the reaction of an imidazole-1-acetate or an imidazole-1-acetic acid with an amine. The compounds of the invention are suitable for the treatment of cardiac arrhythmias in mammals.
