titleOfInvention PROCESS FOR LIGHT-INDUCED ORIENTATION OF LIQUID CRYSTALLINE POLYMERS AND FOR REVERTIBLE OPTICAL INFORMATION STORAGE
abstract The process for light-induced orientation of liquid-crystalline polymers and reversible optical information storage is based on the irradiation of photochromic liquid-crystalline polymers with linearly polarized light, whereby an efficient photochemically induced, physical Umorientierungsprozesz photochromic and mesogenic side groups in the viscoelastic or in the glassy state of the polymers. The liquid-crystalline polymer matrix is uniformly macroscopically oriented by light. When used as an optical storage medium, the cycle of the light-induced write process is repeatable with a high change in optical anisotropy, read, thermal, and photonic fade and reorientation processes. By linearly polarized light areas are inscribed with different preferred orientation or repeatedly switched with variation of the polarization plane between different preferred directions {photochromic liquid-crystalline polymers; linearly polarized light; photochemically induced physical reorientation process; Orientation process; reversible optical information storage}
