The invention relates to the use of less expensive rye flour, instead of plant strengths as the sole polymeric carbon source for the fermentative production of streptothricin antibiotic nourseothricin suitable as ergot in animal production with simultaneous addition of one or a mixture of water-soluble iron salts. It has been found that 0.0005 to 0.005 normal iron concentrations present in the fermentation medium per 10 g / l rye flour selectively abolish the impairment of biosynthesis of nourseothricin due to its ingredients, thereby increasing the economics of the manufacturing process. |
