abstract The invention relates to thermally stable cytosine deaminase (CDase), and the gene encoding it as well as methods for isolation, purification and recombinant production thereof are disclosed. Thermally stable CDase can be isolated from Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The enzyme isolated from yeast has a relative molecular mass of approximately 32 kDa determined by gel chromatography and consists of two subunits, each of which has a relative molecular mass of approximately 17 kDa.
