titleOfInvention POLARIZATION BISTABLE SEMICONDUCTOR LASER
abstract The invention relates to a polarization bistable semiconductor laser. It refers to the bistability for the polarization states of the TE mode and the TM mode of the induced radiation of a semiconductor laser. The two stable states of the polarization of the light are set by means of polarized operating current trigger pulses optionally one after the other of any duration. The device according to the invention can be used for optical flip-flops, optical gates and memories in optical information transmission systems. The selective adjustment of one of the two, with any duration existing bistable states of the polarization of the induced radiation, which is generated within a technologically uniform, material and dopierungshomogene, longitudinally homogeneously electrically excited part of the active waveguide layer, based on the suitably set biaxial stretching of the active Layer and happens by means of electrical trigger pulses, which are superimposed on the operating current.
