abstract | The invention relates to a catalyzed reaction mixture in which a hydroxyl compound is reacted with an isocyanate. Preferably, an activatable catalyst is used to harden a coating composition of a polyol and a polyisocyanate. The activatable catalyst is activated in the presence of an amine activator or by heating and comprises the reaction product of a metal catalyst, namely a tin catalyst, a bismuth catalyst or a mixture thereof, and a molar excess of a complexing agent. The complexing agent is a mercapto compound, a polyphenol reactive with an isocyanate group in the presence of an amine activator, or a mixture thereof. A single polyol resin can contain both the complexing agent and the activatable catalyst.
