abstract The invention relates to a process for the preparation of homopolymers and copolymers of 1,3-dienes and vinylaromatics with novel homoleptic metallacyclic cobalt (II) organo compounds. The average molecular weights of the polymers can be adjusted within a wide range. By adding suitable functionalizing agents to the solutions of the living polymers, terminated prepolymers can be prepared. The diene polymers and diene blocks in copolymers have a high 1,4-structure content.
