abstract Internal combustion engines with a catalytically coated combustion chamber, in particular a catalytically coated vortex or vortex chamber, wherein this consists of steel or ceramic or for the catalytic coating, a ceramic carrier material is introduced into the pre-vortex or vortex chamber. There are solution paths known which z. B. have a locally limited wall zone in a piston mounted in the combustion chamber with a platinum or sodium catalyst. Other solutions envisage lining the entire combustion chamber with catalytically active material based on Cu, Cr, Pt, Rd, Ni compounds. A disadvantage of these solution paths is that they all require high quality and costly catalytic materials. According to the invention, this is remedied by using a mixture of ceramic compounds as the catalytic layer, the main constituent being the components SiO 2, Al 2 O 3 and MgO, while preferably B 2 O 3 and alkalis serve as additives.
