abstract The invention relates to a process for the preparation of 6-aminothieno / 2,3-b / pyridines I. It is the object of the invention to prepare these compounds, hitherto unknown, from readily available starting materials. The task is to find a technically feasible synthetic route. The object is achieved by reacting 6-amino-4-methylthio-2-thioxo-1,2-dihydropyridine-3,5-dicarbonitrile with methylene-active halogen compounds and bases. The compounds obtained are of pharmaceutical interest. Formula I
