abstract The invention relates to a process for the preparation of phenol esters of xamoterol of the general formula Iworin X is a methylene radical or a direct bond, R 1 is a hydrogen atom or an alkyl or alkenyl radical having 3 to 8 carbon atoms and R 2 and R 3, which may be identical or different, each is a 1-4C-alkyl radical; provided that (i) when X is a direct bond, either R1 is a hydrogen atom and R2 and R3 are each a 2-4C-alkyl radical or R1 is a 3-8C-alkyl or alkenyl radical and R2 and R3 are each a methyl radical, or (ii) when X is a methylene radical, R1 is an allyl radical or a 5-7C-alkyl radical and R2 and R3 are each a methyl radical; as well as its pharmaceutically acceptable acid addition salts. The new compounds can be used clinically in the treatment of congestive heart failure and in the treatment of angina and obesity and related conditions.
