abstract The invention is a method by means of which cylinders for hydraulics and pneumatics, which are made of seamless steel pipe, are provided with a surface protection layer according to known nitriding and carbonitriding processes which are used for alloyed steels in gear and tool making. This protective layer is characterized by a high micro-hardness and high stability and it is used inside the cylinder as a wear protection layer and on its outer side as a corrosion protection layer.
