abstract The invention, which relates to a method for the determination of aromatic hydrocarbons in biological materials, can be applied in physicochemical analysis, technical microbiology, animal nutrition and food research. The aim of the invention is a method for the relatively simple qualitative and quantitative determination of aromatic hydrocarbons in biological materials, such as biomasses, feed, animal and vegetable products, especially in biomass grown on hydrocarbons while avoiding elaborate chromatographic decomposition. The aim is also that in animal and vegetable products in addition to the aromatic hydrocarbons at the same time the aliphatic unsatured isoprenoid hydrocarbons are determined. By alkaline hydrolysis, the hydrocarbons are separated, from which once the monocyclic, dicyclic, tricyclic aromatics, dibenzothiophenes and the aliphatic unsaturated isoprenoid hydrocarbons by chromatography with the aid of gradient elution with n-pentane or n-pentane / benzene mixture as eluent isolated on a dual column and whose UV spectra are registered. By means of the UV spectra, the wave number is determined for each structure type, the associated extinction coefficient is determined and the valid matrix is created.
