abstract The invention relates to biocidal agents based on derivatives of 2-bromo-2-nitro-propane-1,3-diol, which for combating phytopathogenic microorganisms, in particular Erwinia spec. can be used. Monoesters of the general formula I, in which R is an optionally substituted aryl or aralkyl radical, have bactericidal properties which are advantageous over the parent substance, reduced water solubility and improved adhesion to plant surfaces. Because of their higher rainfastness and biocidal long-term effect, the inventive compositions are preferably suitable for use under field conditions. Formula I
