abstract In the process according to the invention for the preparation of 2,1,3-benzoxadiazole or 2,1,3-benzothiadiazole-4-carboxaldehyde, the reaction of the 2,1,3-benzoxadiazole or of the 2,1,3-benzothiadiazole is carried out with an organic alkali base into the corresponding 4- (2,1,3) -Benzoxadiazolid- or 4- (2,1,3) -Benzothiadiazolidsalz and subsequent formylation of the thus obtained salt. These aldehydes are important starting materials for the preparation of pharmacologically active 4- (2,1,3-benzoxa or -thiadiazol-4-yl) -1,4-dihydropyridines.
