abstract The invention relates to a process for the preparation of 4-alkoxy-pyrido / 3,2: 4,5 / thieno / 3,2-d / pyrimidine-2-carboxylic acid alkyl esters having different substituents on the pyridine ring of the tricycle. The title compounds are prepared by reacting 3-amino-thieno / 2,3-b / pyridine-2-carbonitriles with oxalic acid dialkyl esters in an alkanolic sodium alkoxide solution in a one-step synthesis. The synthesized compounds are potential drugs and can gain importance as intermediates for the chemical and pharmaceutical industries. Formula I
