According to the novel procedure, steroid 16a, 17a-epoxy-17b-acetates of the general formula I wherein R1 CH3, C2 H5 R2 OH, OAc; O benzoate; O-propionate; OCH3, with an alkali metal borohydride in the presence of an inorganic base and organic solvents or solvent mixtures to steroid 16a, 17b-diols of the general formula II in whichR1CH3, C2H5R2OH, OCH3 meant.
