abstract The invention relates to a process for the preparation of substituted propargyloxyacetonitrile derivatives of the general formula (I) in which R represents a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom, a lower alkyl group, a lower haloalkyl group, a lower alkoxy group, a methylenedioxy group, a nitro group or a cyano group, n is an integer of 1 to 5 and when n is an integer of 2 or more, R may be the same or different, R 1 is a hydrogen atom or a lower alkyl group, and R 2 is a hydrogen atom, a lower alkyl group, a lower haloalkyl group or a halogen atom, provided that that R1 and R2 are not simultaneously hydrogen atoms. The compounds have herbicidal and fungicidal activities. Formula (I)
