titleOfInvention PROCESS FOR THE PREPARATION OF 2.3 BUTANDION FROM FORMALDEHYDE
abstract The invention is suitable for the production of 2.3. Butandione (diacetyl) by a selective Formosereaktion in the gas phase. Butanedione has application in organic synthetic chemistry, e.g. For the preparation of diacetyldioxime. For the Formosereaktion suitable reaction conditions and selective catalysts were found, so that 2.3. Butandione alone is obtained from formaldehyde in good yield. The formation of 2.3. Butandione takes place when passing Formaldeyhddampf over lead, bismuth and alkaline earth metal-containing catalysts in the temperature range of 120 to 250C. As catalysts silicates and metal oxide mixtures are used, which are prepared by pulping, traction and thermal treatment.
