titleOfInvention PROCESS FOR PREPARING ORTHOKIESELETERETETRAMETHYL ESTER FROM FORMALDEHYDE
abstract A process for the preparation of ortho-silicic acid tetramethyl ester (tetramethoxysilane) by a heterogeneously catalytic reaction of gaseous formaldehyde or formaldehyde oligomers with lead silicate at temperatures between 200 and 400C is shown. The inventive method allows the direct use of silicates for the preparation of Orthokieselsururetramethylester and avoids the use of metallic silicon or compounds produced therefrom and thereby contributes to energy conservation. The preparation of the lead-silicate-containing solid is carried out by precipitation of lead silicate from silicate solutions and lead salt solutions in the presence of high molecular weight silica as stabilizer and carrier or by precipitation of thermally easily decomposable lead compounds on siliceous substrates. The regeneration of the lead silicate allows a high degree of utilization of the silicates used.
