titleOfInvention METHOD FOR IMPROVING THE LIFE OF A CATALYST COMPOSITION
abstract In a hydrofining process, the life of a catalyst composition comprising a carrier selected from alumina, silica and silica-alumina and a promoter containing at least one metal from group VI B, VII B or VIII of the periodic table is improved, by adding a decomposable molybdenum compound to the hydrocarbonaceous feedstream prior to contacting the hydrocarbonaceous feedstream with the catalyst composition. The molybdenum is present in the decomposable molybdenum compound in valence state 0. An amount of the decomposable molybdenum compound is added to the hydrocarbonaceous feed stream to give a molybdenum concentration in the range of about 1 to 60 ppm. The introduction of the decomposable molybdenum compound can be started when the catalyst is new, partially deactivated or spent, in each case giving a favorable result.
