abstract The invention relates to a process for the preparation of purine derivatives for use as medicaments. The aim of the invention is to provide compounds with superior positive inotropic action, effect on blood pressure and with long duration of action. According to the invention, novel purine derivatives of the general formula are prepared in which, for example: E is an oxygen or sulfur atom, an imino, sulfinyl or sulfonyl group, R1 means an alkyl group having 1 to 3 carbon atoms which is represented by a cyano, carboxy or alkoxycarbonyl group a total of 2 to 6 carbon atoms, an alkenyl or alkynyl group each having 3 to 5 carbon atoms and R2 an alkoxy, cyanoalkoxy, alkylamino or dialkylamino group, wherein the alkyl moiety may each contain 1 to 3 carbon atoms, an alkenyloxy or alkynyloxy group in each case 3 to 5 carbon atoms, their tautomers and their Saeureadditionssalze.
