abstract The invention relates to a method for obtaining microbial biomass based on petroleum distillates as a carbon source. The aim of the invention is an increase in quality of the biomass to be used as feed, a reduction of the effort for the extraction, an improvement of the space-time yield and a reduction of the environmental impact. According to the invention, the object is achieved by treating the respective petroleum distillate hydrocatalytically before it is used in the process stage cultivation, such that a drastic reduction of the aromatics content and an increase of the n-alkane content of the petroleum distillate is effected. The cultivation is carried out in a manner known per se. The invention can be used to obtain microbial biomass.
