abstract The object of the invention is an economical process for the preparation of such esters. The task to be solved is to find conditions under which the direct esterification of citric acid to symmetrical dialkyl esters in good yield and purity succeeds. The essence of the invention is characterized in that citric acid is reacted with an excess of the corresponding alcohol in the presence of an acidic cation exchanger.
