abstract | The invention describes a process for the preparation of radicals which can be used to initiate radical polymerizations. By reaction of molybdenum (III) compounds with organic halogen compounds, oximes or sulfoxides, radicals are formed which are suitable for triggering the polymerization of acrylic or methacrylic acid esters or mixtures thereof with other vinyl monomers. It is advantageous that a wide variety of free radicals can be generated from simple stable organic compounds by the choice of suitable cosubstrates and that molybdenum (III) compounds do not break off the chain growth of unsaturated carboxylic acid esters. In addition, the systems described allow a substantial variation of the polymerization conditions. |
