abstract The invention relates to a process for the preparation of epoxides by direct oxidation of geradkettigen Entdaendigen olefins of chain length C deep 3 to C deep 20 in the liquid phase with oxygen-containing gases in the presence of transition metal catalysts. According to the invention, compounds of the 2-valent cobalt or manganese with a molybdenum compound in molar ratio> 1 are used as catalysts in an amount> 10 to 4 mol / mol of olefin. The olefin concentration is initially at least 2.5 mol / l. The oxidation takes place at a temperature above 50 ° C., preferably at 110 to 150 ° C. The epoxides obtained are important intermediates, inter alia. for the preparation of corresponding glycols and alcohols, from which polymers and surfactants with specific uses can be obtained.
