titleOfInvention PROCESS FOR PREPARING (4-HALOMETHYL) -IMINO-BENZOESE ACID ALKYL ESTERS
abstract New (4-halomethyl) -imino-benzoic acid alkyl esters of the formula and their HCl or HBr salts, wherein RC is deeply 1 -C deep 4-alkoxyethyl and X is Cl or Br.These compounds are prepared by reaction of p-cyanobenzyl chloride or p-Cyanobenzyl bromide with a C 1 to C deep 4 - alcohol or C 1 to C deep 4 - alkoxyethanol in the presence of hydrogen chloride or hydrogen bromide. The new imines serve as intermediates, inter alia, for the production of optical brighteners from the series of bi-benzoxazoylstilbene.
