abstract The invention relates to a position detector for weak point light sources, which can be used to align optical systems on such light sources on the one hand or for positioning the sources with respect to the optical systems. His task is the avoidance of expensive receiver, the exact positioning and the possibility of measuring the radiation current of the source. The position detector according to the invention contains a parallel plate known per se, which deflects the light onto a circular path by rotation about an axis parallel to the optical axis. Furthermore, a diaphragm with 4 corners is provided for modulating the light, whose edges can be straight and perpendicular to each other and whose edge centers are within and their corners outside the circular path. A photon counter serves to measure the radiation current passing through the shutter in succession into four sectors.
