abstract The invention relates to a process for the continuous recovery of high purity tetrahydrofuran from technical mixtures with methanol. The overall process consists of the process steps of extraction and molecular sieving. The extractants used are alkali liquors in the concentration range between 20 and 50% by mass, which are injected into several elevations of a countercurrent extractor. The tetrahydrofuran obtained after molecular sieving over synthetic zeolites of the type 4A has a methanol content <0.02% by mass, water is undetectable (Fischer's method). The process is applicable to the purification of by-products of polybutylene terephthalate synthesis.
