titleOfInvention METHOD FOR SURFACE-CALVING AN IRON BASED ALLOY OF SUBSTRATE
abstract The invention relates to a process for the surface-hardening of an iron-based alloy substrate for the treatment of machine wear parts, such as cutting tools, hammers, cogs of earth moving and digging plants. The aim of the invention is to provide an improved process by which a hair-coated surface with outstanding hardness and wear resistance can be produced in a cost-saving manner. According to the invention, a composition consisting essentially of chemically bound vanadium, chromium and carbon, the weight ratios being between about 80-20% VC and 20-80% Cr deep 3 C deep 2, and from 0 to about 15, is used as the harsher material Wt .-% in the aggregate of cobalt, iron, nickel and molybdenum. The composition is in the form of a cold sintered particulate solid material and contains predominantly chromium carbide in solid solution with vanadium carbide, bonding between the surface and the harsher material being achieved by an electrical welding process.
